2015 Gray Statement
공평하고 공정한 회색

일반적으로 생명의 끝, 혹은 정지를 상징하는 색으로 "회색"Gray“ 떠오른다.

하지만 나는 Gray의 정지에서 흰색과 검정 색 사이에 멈춰 서서 어느 쪽에도 기울지 않는 공평함을 느꼈다. 멈춰 선 채, 제3의 의견도 의미도 가지지 않는 그레이의 멈춤이 삶에 대한 위로와 휴식으로 다가왔다. 우리 모두는 사회의 비평(심사)의 대상으로서 자신의 말, 감정, 주장들을 애써 눌러 두며 살아간다. 이처럼 다양한 표현들을 표출 할 수 있는 자리로써, 사회의 시선과 강요에서 벗어나는 자유의 공간을 보여주고자 그레이 작업을 시작했다. 각각의 그레이 공간(방)을 만들어 놓고, 사물들이 하얀 천 위에 앉아(혹은 누워)있는 모습을 담았다. 인간의 욕망을 대변하는 사물들이 괴로움과 즐거움, 뛰어남과 모자람, 명랑함과 무료함, 은폐와 노출이 평균치로 수렴되어, 회색 조로 물든다.

To create the space of freedom that is free from the gaze and enforcement of society, the work Grey started. I felt a sense of fairness from the grey colour that stands still between white and black. Terminated, the meaninglessness of grey came to me in solacement and rest. I wanted to stand after people who obscure one’s voice, emotion and opinion by being objected by social critique.

 

Each grey space (room) was created, and the objects were sitting on (or lying on) a white cloth. Things that represent human desires are painted grey, with bitterness and joy, excellence and inferiority, cheeriness and stillness, and concealment and exposure converging on average.
